Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

A.V. Electric wants everyone in Collingdale and across Philadelphia, Upper Darby, Haverford to be able to use this website, including people who browse with a screen reader, a keyboard only, screen magnification, or other assistive technology. We treat the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our target standard and we work toward it as we build and update pages.

Measures We Take

  • We build pages with semantic HTML, so headings, lists, landmarks and forms carry real structure rather than visual styling alone.
  • Every page uses a single main heading, and on our content pages the headings below it step down in order, so the page can be navigated by heading. The "page not found" page is the exception and is described under Limitations below.
  • Interactive elements are reachable and operable with a keyboard. Links, buttons, the navigation and the consent checkbox show a 2px solid orange outline, set 3px away from the element, when you reach them with the keyboard. The four text fields in our contact form are the exception and are described under Limitations below.
  • Every picture on the site carries alternative text: descriptive where the picture carries meaning, and empty where it is decorative so that assistive technology skips it. Icons drawn inline as SVG are a separate case and are described under Limitations below.
  • Body text, headings and links are chosen to meet the WCAG AA contrast ratio against our dark background.
  • Motion respects your system setting: if you have requested reduced motion, animations and scrolling effects are switched off.
  • Our phone number is always available as a tap-to-call link, so you never have to transcribe it.

Conformance Status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the standard. The site has not been audited by an independent accessibility evaluator, so we do not claim full conformance. We review accessibility as part of our normal site updates and fix issues as we find them or as they are reported to us.

Technical Specifications

Accessibility of this website relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA, and on the combination of your web browser and any assistive technology or plug-ins you have installed. The site is built to work in current versions of the major browsers on desktop and mobile. All page content is delivered as HTML, so the text of every page can be read with JavaScript turned off.

Limitations

We are honest about what is not fixed yet:

  • Contact form focus indicator. The Name, Email, Phone and Message fields switch off the site's standard focus outline. Instead, when you tab into one, its border turns orange, its background lightens slightly and a 3px orange ring is drawn around it at low opacity. That ring is fainter than the outline every other control gets and may be hard to see in bright light or on a low-contrast screen. The consent checkbox and the submit button in the same form do use the standard outline. We intend to restore it on the text fields as well.
  • Google Maps embed. Our service area map is an embedded Google Maps frame. Its interface is produced by Google and we cannot change its markup, keyboard behavior or contrast. Our full service address and service area are also given in text on the page, so no information is available only inside the map.
  • Reveal-on-scroll motion. Some sections fade in as you scroll. This effect is switched off when your system requests reduced motion, but with JavaScript disabled some of those sections stay hidden. The three legal pages, including this one, do not use the effect.
  • Heading order on the "page not found" page. On /404 the main heading is followed straight away by the footer's third-level column headings, so a second-level heading is skipped. Every other page steps through heading levels in order.
  • Inline SVG icons. Most of the decorative icons drawn inline as SVG are hidden from screen readers, but a minority are not yet marked as decorative and may be announced as unlabeled graphics. None of them carry information that is not also written in the text beside them.
  • Older content. Some photographs and text added before our current review process may have alternative text or wording that is less descriptive than we would write today. We correct these as we come across them.
